The Hague, Netherlands – Burlington MA, March 6, 2017 – Cassini announced the release of system improvements to its Cassini Corneal Shape Analyzer with the 2.4.1 version of software.  Improvements to Cassini were based on close collaboration with leading eye surgeons and focused on further increasing precision and efficiency.

Total Corneal Astigmatism (TCA) Algorithm Upgrade: Cassini’s proprietary 2nd Purkinje based posterior cornea measurements has been further improved for greater precision.  The latest version of the algorithm provides surgeons with customized total cornea information for refractive cataract surgery.

Stability Tracking:  Cassini Corneal Shape Analyzer has added functionality that will provide information on eye movement during acquisition. This will be added to the detailed report that provides confidence factors based on focus, centration, corneal coverage and posterior point detection.  When excessive eye movement is detected during an acquisition, a warning signal will be displayed on the Cassini report.

Improved Workflow:  The Cassini improvements also provide a better experience for the patient and operator.   The workflow was designed for fast capture to help ensure better ocular surface quality during acquisition.

Cassini offers a comprehensive suite of services to support the rapidly growing global customer base. These services include the ability to download the latest software version, as well as the option to remotely provide application support where needed. In addition, Cassini offers an online training portal called Cassini Academy. This service features step-by-step tutorials on all the improvements and changes to the system. Users can view videos and obtain 2.4.1 certification by completing the online course.

In a recent retrospective study presented by Dr. Elizabeth Yeu at ASCRS, Cassini TCA achieved 94.0% accuracy within 0.50 D and 74.0% accuracy within 0.25 D postoperative manifest refractive cylinder, compared with 84.0% and 54.0%, respectively, for the Barrett toric calculator, and 79.4% and 50.0% for the Baylor nomogram.
