Cassini Technologies announces market launch of joint collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Vision

A collaboration agreement between Cassini Technologies and Johnson & Johnson Vision, entailing both joint product development and marketing activities, has resulted in seamless compatibility between the CATALYS Precision Laser System from Johnson & Johnson Vision and the evolved and all-new Cassini Ambient for data exchange and automatic cyclo-rotation compensation.

The Hague, Netherlands (December 9, 2020) – Cassini Technologies BV, a global pioneer in corneal diagnostics today announces that the seamless compatibility between the latest cOS 6.0 software for the CATALYS Precision Laser System and the Cassini Ambient is ready for market launch. The Cassini Ambient and CATALYS Precision Laser System will be jointly promoted, as part of a collaboration agreement between Cassini Technologies BV and Johnson & Johnson Vision.

The CATALYS cOS 6.0 software with advanced astigmatism management streamlines workflow, speeds up the surgical process and improves accuracy by:

  • Minimizing data entry verification and manual transcription errors through direct input of preoperative keratometry and steep axis information[1]
  • Reducing time spent on calculation of arcuate incision parameters using built-in nomogram and automatic input of arcuate incision parameters into the treatment planning screen
  • Reducing reliance on intraoperative aberrometry for toric IOL alignment with radial laser marks placed within a mean accuracy of 0.6° providing 5.5X greater precision compared to manual marking of the cornea with an ink pen (mean accuracy 3.3°)[2],[3]
  • Iris registration for automatic cyclo-rotation compensation with mean accuracy of 0.8° providing 3.0X greater precision compared to manual marking and eliminating surgeon-dependent manual compensation[4][5]

“We are excited to deliver this new capability to CATALYS surgeons with the introduction of CATALYS cOS 6.0 software”, said Rajesh K. Rajpal, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Global Head of Clinical and Medical Affairs at Johnson & Johnson Vision. “The ability to integrate Cassini Ambient data with CATALYS cOS 6.0 software is a powerful addition to our portfolio of astigmatism management solutions.”

Wendell J. Scott, MD from Mercy Clinic Eye Specialists, Springfield, MO, USA commented: “Astigmatism management was previously an unmet need, due to the cataract surgeons’ discomfort with the tools and techniques available to us to deliver what we’ve promised to our patients. The Cassini Ambient integration with the Catalys cOS 6.0 gives us the ability to confidently recommend astigmatism management as part of the cataract procedure, powered by this new technology that helps reduce transcription errors and increase accuracy and precision.”

Cassini Technologies CEO Joris Vogels says: “Our Cassini Ambient and the Catalys cOS 6.0 software provide tremendous value to surgeons and cataract patients worldwide. The advanced astigmatism management workflow now offered by Johnson & Johnson Vision combined with Cassini Ambient makes cataract surgery faster, easier and more accurate compared to manual marking. I am extremely proud of the Cassini team in the Hague, the Netherlands as well as the Johnson & Johnson team in Milpitas, California. Both teams have worked diligently to bring this collaboration to market, and they should be proud of what they have achieved. Cassini Ambient and Catalys cOS 6.0 are a formidable connection.”

Both CATALYS cOS 6.0 and Cassini Ambient are now commercially available in the USA, EU and selected other markets.
