New Cassini Design Lights Up Las Vegas

Redesigned Cassini corneal shape analyzer takes refractive-cataract surgery to a next level by measuring the total corneal astigmatism and eliminating post-op surprises

The Hague, November 11, 2015 i-Optics, a pioneer in the development of superior eye diagnostic solutions, announces today that it will introduce the new Cassini Corneal Shape Analyzer at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting starting this week in Las Vegas, NV. This important product update marks the next chapter and the latest and greatest in product design, usability and diagnostic performance.

Since the launch of Cassini two years ago at the AAO in New Orleans, the Cassini team has been driving continuous innovations to the unique color LED ray tracing technology. Last year the company introduced Total Corneal Astigmatism at the AAO 2014 in Chicago, bringing instantaneous imaging of the posterior corneal surface to refractive-cataract surgeons who want to get the best possible refractive outcomes for their patients. This year at the AAO in Las Vegas the company presents a new platform that comes with the latest software release 2.2. Like all previous releases, this latest software release will also be made available to all current Cassini systems in the field.

Jeroen Cammeraat, CEO and co-founder of Cassini comments “It’s our mission to deliver true diagnostic data of the total cornea to surgeons.  Capturing the posterior surface is therefore critical, as well as generating the total cornea data with the highest degree of accuracy and precision. This latest release will take our unique technology to the next level and first clinical data from our research sites are showing outstanding post-operative results. We will share the data at the AAO and plan to have a comprehensive set of clinical study results ready for ASCRS 2016”.

Cassini Total Corneal Astigmatism helps cataract surgeons to better understand corneal properties in order to improve outcomes and increase premium patient volume. Cassini offers a full suite of examinations required for toric and multifocal IOL implantation. This includes corneal topography, mesopic and photopic pupillometry as well as full color photography for diagnostic purpose. The technology employs red, green and yellow LEDs that are each positioned in a unique relationship to four of its neighbors, giving each one a ’gps-like’ coordinate. Cassini uses the ray-tracing principle to measure the relative position of each point, using the three different colors as ‘triangulation’ points.
